1LT Mark H. Dooley was killed in action on September 19, 2005 while deployed to Ar Ramadi, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom
1LT Dooley was assigned to the Vermont Army National Guard's 3rd Battalion, 172nd Mountain Infantry Regiment, 42nd Infantry Division, Jericho, Vermont
At the time of his deployment Mark was police officer for the Town of Wilmington, Vermont.
The Annual 5K Race and Kids Fun run started in 2009 by Mark's friends at the Wilmington Police Department. Since then the event, has been warmly embraced by the local community and beyond.
The event honors 1LT Mark Dooley's service to our country, state and community. This race is a community event sponsored by our local businesses and the Wilmington Police Department. All proceeds from this event are used to support Mark's memory by giving back to the community. One such community endeavor is the 1LT Mark Dooley Scholarship awarded to a Twin Valley High School Senior.
